How often do you see this? Its like… Helllllooo!!! I’m out in a store walking the aisle and there is this guy who has just bent over right in front of me, ostensibly looking or rummaging through a box of who knows what, displaying the crack of his BUM ( AKA Builders Bum in England!) and I think: Is this Guy Serious! Do these guys really, I mean really don’t know that their shirts are NOT tucked into their pants!? Do they really don’t FEEL the draft! Do they not know what their inside leg measurements are when they buy a paid of pants! Do they really think its COOL and fashionable to display their Bum Crack!! Do they think they are 18 years old and its a MUST DO!! Is it a Silent language to encourage other men!! Nope!! I think its 100% an Invitation to a little Street Photography even if you only have an iPhone in your Pocket!! Thanks a bunch man! and now… Time for my Pepto-Bismol!

"Flickr" Deletes/Censors User Content at Will, "Street Photography"

Flickr Deletes User Description Content at Will.

As most people interested in Photography might well know, Getty Images and Flickr have reached a deal for image licensing for Flickr user images. The British Journal of Photography, in amongst others, reported the news both online and in print, the June 2010 online version of which can be read here: http://bit.ly/b8QGKW

The Latest update on the deal, is also reported in the July issue of the BJP, which at this very time is not available online yet (or I couldn't find it) and I'm sure it will be soon.

The Article in the July issue, gives details of the mechanics of the Getty/Flickr deal and is informative and offers notes of consideration.

I eventually, found the time to read the article ( on a train journey) and emailed a letter to the BJP and afterwards, uploaded an image (Kick Ass, above), to Flickr with the same words words as my email letter to BJP referring to the article in BJP with my own views and thoughts and ended me words with: Kick Ass!

I thought the move/deal (flickr+Getty) was in fact good news for small time photographers, amateurs, and alike.

Flickr ( or maybe Flickr and Getty) in the wisdom, deleted, censored my words. This Giant company obviously felt, censorship was in order. They type of reaction that you would hear about in places like the Middle East, China, Africa or locations where people might be oppressed expressing themselves but oh no... Not Flickr.

I then wrote back to BJP letting them know what happened, and needless to say that I have Tweeted the censorship. BJP kindly have tweeted back that they have contacted Flickr for comments.

So, here is what I wrote to BJP and used as image description on Flickr which Flikr Deleted:

Sent July 14th 2010, July 2010 Issue BJP.

"Sometimes you cant have the cake and eat it:

The world of photography foolishly and without choice in the matter (in my view), turned their back on film and praised what I call "The digital invasion" age.
So with the birth of billions of digital photographers, (and flickr would have never existed otherwise), why now the Getty licensing deal with flickr the death of professionals most of whom have already been killed!!!
It wont effect the top layer and its the birth of millions of small time professional and a handful who will make to the top layer!! All good news really if you are a digital victim (me included who has just purchased a phase one P30+), but the advice for amateurs to know the value of their images, is a great one. Sell nothing for less than $400. Kick Ass."

So, the above is what I wrote to BJP and what I uploaded to Flickr which is what they deleted.
it was here: http://bit.ly/bevf4j

its is now also blogged at Tumblr http://bit.ly/bR9P4F

Now, you may or may not agree with what I wrote, there maybe some elements of Truth or otherwise, but is it right that Flickr should just delete it at will. in reality censoring user content in this manor?? even without reading it, I'm sure they may be legally entitled to do it somewhere written in the small "user agreement" print but, were my comments Pornographic? Violence encouraging? really damaging to Flickr and or Getty? threatened the security of either businesses? starting a revolusion? or anything like that at all!!!
So, how many people might have read my words? out of those how many might have done anything other than go... Yeah Right! and how many might have turned down a Getty offer for an image purchase price less that $400??? one? two? non?

So, all in all, I think it was foolish to delete my micro blog, Flickr should have been a bigger boy with all the millions of users and billions of dollars in the bank! its like BP banning people who comment ( not even criticize) them for the Oil Spill from using their Gas Stations!!

Shame on you Flickr!!! you many be a few years old but not a baby!!!

Hell.... for All I know, this might get deleted too!!!

Update: As of July 26th 2010. I have been emailed by Flickr users that they can NOT add comments to the Flickr image.
I know that BJP had emailed Flickr for comments and as of July 22nd there had been NO response from Flickr. I gather that this is NOT the first time that Flickr has DELETED user content!!!
And what threat is that to Flickr?
Update: Thanks to the "British Journal of Photography" My letter of July 14th 2010 re "Flickr" Licencing deal is published in the August 2010 issue.

A remarkable work by one of Iran's leading artists, Khosrow Hassanzadeh (b.1963), recently acquired by The British Museum. Currently on Exhibition at The Whitworth Gallery, Manchester, England. The centrepiece of the show is a large assemblage portrait of Gholamreza Takhti (1930-1968), one of the country's national heroes, renowned for his Olympic medals for wrestling. I saw the Exhibition on Sat March 20th During a Persian New year Celebration at the Gallery. I wish more Iranians whould have shown up!!!

They call me Mr. Moses

So I eventually caught up with him and drew his attention. He took his headphones off and agreed to have his picture taken. What is your name i asked afterwards? They call me Mr. Moses, he replied! And you do look like a Mr. Moses I said!! We both burst out laughing. Taken in Nyc , where else. As he left, I noticed a homeless man had been listening and watching us. He said, this man has been walking around like this for as long as I remember, maybe thirty years!!

people who we often feel UN-approachable, ARE approachable!

Che

Che 2, originally uploaded by Johnny Mobasher Street Photography.

Who can this man be! I have been seeing this image, the image of a man with a beard wearing a hat everywhere i go! I see this man on Cigarette Lighters in Souvenir shops in Spain, on T shirts in NY, on Posters in Poster shops in London, Men wearing him in Boston, On Hats in Flee Markets in Cambridge, on Handbags in Manchester, On Stickers, people wearing the image around their necks on medallions, on belt buckles, smoking a joint. Always the same image! Who is this man!? I even recently saw his image on a poster at a cinema, is he an actor!? Who can this man be. I once asked a man who was wearing a T shirt with this image: Who is this man, I asked? He replied: Dunno!... a Cool guy! A Cool Guy, I said? Yeah...he's really cool. I asked the sales girl in the Poster shop, she said, Ah.... All I know is that his name is Che!
So a cool guy called Che, who's image is everywhere but not many people who wear it or sell it know who he is other than he was a cool guy!!! is that IT!? Is this what he lived for! What he stood for! I guess millions of us ordinary folks WOULD want to be remembered as COOL but not if you’re not a member of the ordinary league then you would want to be remembered for what you were extra-ordinary, na!?
Ok, Ok, he is Che! and I guess that he never imagined his image would end up in places that it has.
I don't know about any of that but if you were to be a revolutionary, you would like to look like him!! No!? You would also hope people would know who you were and what you did. Good or Bad. A Hero or a Villain. But I'm not sure if you would want to be on Cigarette lighters and coffee mugs!! For a Cheap Thrill!! But then again, may be you would. Would you???
Don’t get me wrong, I am a FAN of Photography only! And Frank Zappa!

Friday

Church Yard at 3am

She arrived right on time and got into his car. What was he doing there!? Why did she come!? All the talk about how she didn’t know him went through my mind. If was not important at all until she got into the car. What are they doing there! He just got back from Malaysia, buying some sort of liquid. A Blue-ish color liquid. What WAS this liquid! May be she is having a CAR affair, you know. The reclining seat experience.
But as time went on their voices got louder and louder. What WAS going on in that car. I could not understand the words but I knew they had started to argue. It sounded like an argument. I rolled my car window down to hear better. It WAS an argument. I heard her shouting my name. What was he saying? I could see at times the car would swing side to side very very slightly as if there was some physical involvement. I looked around and there was no one in sight. It was about 3am by now. 20 minutes in the car. It all went very calm again.
No sound.
So quiet.
I heard a cat’s Mi-ao some distance away.
A bird.
I looked up and the sky was so clear.
A moon lit night.
Stars so large I felt I could just reach out and take one.
I could hear Stravinsky in my head.
You could probably hear a pin drop.
Then…..

A Gun shot!!
Deafening.
My heard stared to race!

I saw a flash of lightning come though from the car!

Someone shot someone!

A second later, she got out of the car and walked away and diapered around the corner.

I didn’t know what to do.

Follow her to check the car!

Someone must have called the police by now. it was so loud.

I knew where she lived so I decided to check the car.

I got out and whilst looking around, approached the car.

I could hear sirens.

I put my gloves on and reached for the drivers door handle and pulled.

It was locked.

I couldn’t see into the car.

I went around the car as I knew the other door would be unlocked. She had just got out.

I opened the door and carefully looked inside……….

it's only 10pm, USA, Warm summer's night, the days are of the sort that some people use umbrellas to walk under shade, the homeless are in bed by now, in this case, one on the left and one on the right, one with an umbrella already in place to DELAY dawn! each with their own space, side wall of a Church on a corner of Two very busy street both at night and during the day, I cant remember how many times I have seen this very location now, may be four times, four nights, this is the first time i see the umbrella, two other people, homeless, sleep by the front door, during early evening before the homeless arrive, buskers play on for a few buck right at the front, there are, at least, two dozen restaurants within 5 minutes walk of this very spot, some you have to stay in line for 20 minutes or so, filet stakes, Red wine, Deserts and Seductions. There are Art galleries within 3 minutes walk where Photographs, paintings, sculptures sell for over a average man's annual salary, there are apartments for $5 Million less than two minutes walk, Armani, Gucci and the rest of them within an arms reach of the same spot, people promenade before and after dinner, and I......must take my picture!!!!
